Nusa Penida is a world class site. According to a recent ranking of the best dive sites in Indonesia, Nusa Penida ranks third in this ranking ahead of Amed and the Gili Islands.
Around the island there are about 22 dive sites, represented on the map below.
North Side : Toyapakeh, Ped, SD
The north of the island consists of many drift dives with beautiful corals.
Access : 10 minute boat ride from Toyapakeh.
Corals state : The coral wall is in perfect condition
and offers incredible diversity in some places.
Fish species :
Great diversity of reef and pelagic fish. Opportunity to see molas / moonfish and even whale sharks
Flow :
Low, moderate, strong and very strong depending on the tides. The currents normally go
in the same direction and these sites can become a perfect place for those starting out in the current.
Visibility : Visibility 20m-40m
CRYSTAL BAY
Crystal Bay is a protected bay that opens on the strait between Lembongan and
Penida.
Access : 15 minutes by boat to the mola-mola's
(moon fish) cleaning station.
Corals state : Very good coverage and diversity in some places. Some places are very damaged after passing storms in July 2018.
Fish species : Good variety, from macro to very big. One of the best places to see the mola-mola / moon fish, turtles, sharks.
Antennarius and rare creatures are also part of the game, even if often ignored by divers.
Flow : Moderate. This is not a drift dive site. Expect to face the current. The wall is reserved for experienced divers given powerful currents, descendants or amounts!
Visibility : Visibility 30m-50m. The name of the site comes from the high visibility!
MANTA POINT
High cliffs on the southern coast. Beautiful views underwater as on the surface.
Access : 45 minutes by boat
Corals state : Good variety of corals but the swell prevents them from growing vertically.
Fish species : The resident population of manta rays
in southern Nusa Penida is several hundred individuals. Some clubs ensure that manta rays are present all year,
but we prefer to insist that the sea is not an aquarium or a zoo,
although there is more chance to cross these beautiful creatures than do not see them.
Manta rays are attracted by the amount of plankton in the water they feed on.
Flow : Low current. The difficulty of the site comes from the swell that can reach several meters.
Visibility : Visibility 10 to 30m
